Lots of things have changed since my last post – so, I deleted it, and the others, and decided to start from scratch. At the moment, I am not teaching classes and focusing on my work in Academic Affairs. Despite the fact I am not in the classroom, I am the chair of two dissertation committees, an honors thesis, and I am involved with as many student organizations as possible; gotta keep those connections to the students!
Last academic year, 2021-22 was fairly productive! Our WKU Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives and the ONE WKU Campaign kicked into high gear and we made some great progress. We were even recognized by AASCU and received the DEI Excellence in Innovation Award; but there is more work to do! There are even plans to create a DEI Podcast this fall – stay turned!
We are doubling down on our efforts to reinvigorate the American Democracy Project. We have teams leading us in the Stewardship of Public Lands, Economic Literacy, Student Success Intensive, and Constructive Dialogues…again, a lot to do but the outcome is worth it!
Finally, our Colonnade (Gen Ed) team is focusing on an outcome-driven revamp. It’s important for general education to develop competencies that work in concert with majors rather than create tensions.
Short but sweet! More to come!
